Lida D. Raoufi, D.D.S.
Dr. Raoufi’s commitment to her dental career and her patients’ well-being is expressed in her interests for others. This principle is universally woven into the fabric of her personal life, and professional health-care philosophy; a philosophy where the dynamics of commitment and professional responsibility merge into one:
"Treat everyone as you would like to be treated."
Dr. Raoufi genuinely understands how her patients feel when coming in for dental treatment: with her kind hearted, chair side manner Dr. Raoufi puts every patient at ease. Dr. Raoufi is a very warm person, who treats everyone around her like they are family.
Since 1991, Dr. Raoufi has held a visible position in the Scottsdale professional community, and is an active mother to two. In her time away from the practice, Dr. Raoufi’s primary focus is with her family. She enjoys playing tennis and racquetball, and is always in attendance at her childrens’ soccer games and gymnastics competitions. She is that ultimate "soccer mom" on the sideline, showing her support for her children and sharing in their interests. A vast portion of her time away from her career commitments is dedicated to her children, who are, as she says, "the center of her universe."
After graduating high school in Austin, Texas, Dr. Raoufi spent two years of her undergraduate at the University of Washington in Seattle. She then moved on to the University of California Los Angeles where she received her Bachelor in Psychology. While studying towards her Bachelor degree, Dr. Raoufi was involved in the publication of a number of articles with the research Department of Periodontics in UCLA’s School of Dentistry. In 1991, Dr. Raoufi graduated from the University of Southern California with her Doctorate in Dental Surgery. Dr. Raoufi’s professional history includes volunteering at children’s hospitals and mobile clinics. She is a member of the Arizona Dental Association and actively attends Continuing Education courses to stay well informed and up-dated in clinical technique; a personal and professional commitment to the enhanced level of care offered at American Family Dentistry.
Dr. Sarina K. Mercado, D.D.S.
Dr. Mercado’s philosophy can best be summarized in one word… excellence. As an Endodontist, root canal specialist, Dr. Mercado is confidently focused on her clinical technique with attention to detail; while at the same time being quietly aware of her patients’ every need and concern. Dr. Mercado takes the time to insure her patients have a comfortable and pleasant experience; in Dr. Mercado’s own words, "technique without compassion is not acceptable." Away from the office, Dr. Mercado enjoys her two mini dachshunds, trying new restaurants, time with her friends and family; yet she manages to reserve enough time to delve into an extension class and satisfy that under-current of academics curiosity for personal development.
Born and raised in the Philippines; Dr. Mercado received her dental degree from Centro Escolar University, Manila, Philippines in 1987. After graduation Dr. Mercado practiced as a general dentist prior to migrating to the United States in 1992.
While in the United States she pursued Advanced Studies at NYU, College of Dentistry where she earned her degree in Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) in 1996. During her senior year at NYU, she became a member of the honors program, CCAPA. Upon graduation from dental school, she completed a one year General Practice Residency Program at the Catholic Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York where she received the "Biotene Award for Excellence in Hospital Dentistry". This training program mainly focused on traumatic injuries of the head and neck, oral surgery, hospital dentistry and general medicine. Immediately after her residency program, she was accepted in a two year Post Graduate specialty training in Endodontics at New York University. During this time, she also served as a clinical instructor in Endodontics to pre-doctoral students.
Dr. Masih Shahlaie, B.D.S, M.S.
I was first introduced to implant dentistry in 1998 and, thereafter, attended numerous prosthetic and surgical implant-related courses. I find that my general dentistry experience provides me with a better understanding of the prosthetic requirements, the potential challenges and, ultimately, the overall treatment I provide for my patients. This also facilitates effective communication with referring restorative colleagues.
Our Practice offers the full scope of surgical and non-surgical periodontal treatment. We emphasize periodontal plastic and esthetic surgery, augmentation and implant therapy.
My dental training took place in England, at the University of London (The Royal London). Following Dental School, I embarked upon a training (Equivalent to GPR and didactic), where I gained a broader experience in other aspects of dentistry as well as general private practice. My training in Periodontics was at Loma Linda University where I received a Certificate of Specialty as well as a Masters Degree in Periodontology. Following my residency, I became an assistant professor at Loma Linda University in a clinical setting, where I was engaged in diagnosis, treatment planning, laboratory and clinical periodontal treatment with junior and senior dental students. I completed my Board Certification in 2004 and was awarded Diplomate status by the American Board of Periodontology.
